Timor-Leste now eligible for online visitor visa applications for Australia
Nationals of Timor-Leste will have easier access to visas for short-term visits to Australia from 9 May 2014.
Timor-Leste has been added to the list of eligible countries for electronic lodgement of visitor (subclass 600) visa applications, and will be the first country in Southeast Asia to have access to online lodgement for this visa subclass.
Timor-Leste nationals seeking to visit Australia as tourists, for business visitor activities or to visit friends or family will be able to gain access to the subclass 600 visitor visa and lodge visa applications online.
To access electronic lodgement, individuals will need access to a credit card, scanner and email account. When the visa application is finalised, the individual will be notified via email. Electronic visa applicants can also check the progress of their application and any conditions attached to their visa through the online system.
“This new online system will facilitate Timorese traveling to Australia. This should strengthen our people-to-people links, and, we hope, promote greater commercial links between our two nations,” said Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Peter Doyle.
